The official "Tools Wanted" thread« » Reply  Edit

So, as http://www.AutomotiveSpecialtyTool.net progresses along, we'd like to get a running tally of all of the tools in which people are interested for borrowing/lending purposes.

We plan on incorporating something similar on our site to help users prioritize which tools to post up, etc...

We encourage those who have any combination of these to post them up, at no charge, on AutomotiveSpecialtyTool.net

We will be checking this thread periodically for updates, etc.

If the tool is make or model specific, please indicate that as well as part numbers/manufacturers whenever possible.

Thanks for any and all input.

And what if lender's tool(s) are not returned, lost or damaged beyond repair? How does the lender get compensated in one of the above situations? The lender would have to document the condition before and after, sounds like a PIA. Doesn't sound like a chance I'd want to take.

Good questions!

First of all, the lender can define a deposit that is held essentially in escrow (a paypal account managed by us to protect both parties) until both parties agree to a successful transaction.

And yes, we do preach that you monitor the condition of the tool at the following stages: before sending to borrower (if you're a lender), when you receive it from a lender (if you're a borrower), after you use it and before you send it back (if a borrower), and after you receive it back from the borrower (if you're a lender).

At the moment, we have an email account set up to accept email descriptions w/ attached photos that specify the transaction ID and tool ID (information found in order history and confirmation emails). We hope to have this process automated through the site in the future, but for the moment, this is what we're working with.

I encourage you to take a gander at the site, the tools currently listed, etc. so you can get an idea for what information is displayed/required and also take a look at the "How it Works" link located here: [url:29uwvi7w]http://www.automotivespecialtytool.net/faqs.php[/url:29uwvi7w]

Let me know if you have any questions, comments, etc.

Cheers,

Ramzi

I have some OEM Honda specialty tools (duplicates) I could add on, but they would require a deposit of what they cost me (some of them are $200+). Do you think you have any users that would rent them at that price?

Also, what if a renter files a fraudulent Paypal dispute? Paypals policy is to side with the buyer if the dispute cannot be resolved. Forgive me for not reading the Hot it Works on the site, I'm a bit short on time right now.

Hey man... For whatever reason, I got no notification of your reply, but paypal does NOT control the deposit... AST does. Paypal is simply the medium. The only payments that you would have to go through paypal for currently are shipping and the rental cost.

Also, per your question about deposit amounts: I have a Land Rover timing chain tool that requires a $400 deposit, $160 rental payment, & $44 round trip insured shipping and I've had several bites.

It all depends on how rare the tool is, how expensive it is, how often those who want it are going to do the work, and when it is available.

My suggestion is to post everything up on the site at once when you do a spring cleaning since you'll have the process down after your first item.

Feel free to email me directly with questions at ramzi.vincent@automotivespecialtytool.net . Thanks!
