I forgot to mention this year's plans.
The Dixie Nat'l Tour in March.
SCCA Chasing the Dragon Hill Climb in June.
NASA TT at Nola in May
SCCA TT at Barber in August.
I'm considering the GTA event at Nola in October.

My 205 BFG R1-S set will bump me to TTC since the 10 pt tire return is gone for 2016. I will probably run both C and D at Nola in May with Maxxis RC1s as my choice for D.

Dave, Cooper and I did this event last year and it was fun and fast track (no elevation change though). Dave and I just did the HPDE and Cooper won the GTA group he was in. We are looking at signing up again this year.

He ran a fast time (1:55.7) and from what I read, on not so great tires. That's pretty impressive. I wanted to go, but I did a TT the weekend before that and the budget was already beyond blown. GTA has "unique" rules. My car is one mod (2 way adj shocks) out of the Enthusiast class, but aero is allowed lol
They require TW220 tires too. Even though I won't be competitive running with swapped cars, it'll still be fun to do a higher profile event.

I decided to do one day at Nola with NASA on 1/30 since the weather was perfect. This was my first time there with the race seat and harness. I also got to try out a head and neck restraint thanks to Xian loaning me one of his.

I managed to continue my streak of setting new personal best times there. I ran a couple of 2:00.2s on the last session.

I'm liking this camera setup and angle:

Thanks! It's an I/O Port roll bar mount. I found it used on ebay for $40. You'll need a tripod mount adapter too. I think I paid $12 for the Smatree one. I used bicycle tire tube to keep the mount from marring up the roll bar.

It's been a while. Not many changes to the car really, but some have bumped me out of STX. Which is fine with me because I'm doing good to make it to TTs.
Custom shifter by Fusion Works Fabrication, switched to a smaller Sparco seat (Pro-ADV), installed a test pipe, pulled arm rest and rear seats and switched from Carbotech XP10 up front to Hawk DTC-60s. That really helped my pedal issue. Those pads are amazing!
I picked up a sponsor (Kilo Brands) by pure luck really and I've been winning contingencies from Maxxis, Hoosier, Hawk and Winding Road Racing. I won the Nola Region TTD Championship this year.
I'm still trying to break the 2.75 mile full north course record, but I did break the 1.8 mile short course record. I was on RC-1s, so that was a surprise.
The last TT weekend I F'd up by going from the top of 3rd to 2nd and killing the engine. My best lap was good enough for me to fnish 1st out of 5th and fortunately my wife let me use her '14 Mazda 6 daily to get a timed lap for Sunday. Without that I wouldn't have won the championship. It makes for a great story, but I'd rather have my engine instead
Let me know if you know of a B18C5 that's for sale.

Here's the last lap. Skip to 2:08 if you want to go straight to the cringe

I'll post some pics of the wheel and tire setup (15x8 +35 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s) later.

sucks about the motor that was hard to watch, scares when I've almost done it before...

btw, that video mount location is great to watch from, I like the angle a lot from there.

Brutal watch. I'm still cringing. What a perfect storm of events. On a positive note, bravo on your success in TTD. The caR looks dang good as well. The livery is well balanced. Best wishes on the rebuild.

That was tough to watch. :/ At least you're just down a motor though. Shouldn't be too expensive to replace. You going to be at Hallett coming up in Summer Shootout? It's a ways out, but I'll be there running TTD. My ITR has a ways to go before it's built fully to the rules.

My friend is digging deeper into the engine tonight to see the carnage. I'm hoping the block is salvageable. Yeah that camera angle shows a lot of what's going on.

Thanks It was not as dramatic as I was thinking killing an engine would be. We know that one one piston hit a plug and there's pieces of ring and coolant in the pan.

It's unlikely I'll wander that far off next year. Nola, Barber and maybe the Chasing the Dragon hillclimb.
Yes it could've been much worse. It could've happened mid corner or oiled the track down.
It's good to see another TTD R

Oooof... been there and its an awful feeling Reliving that through the video was like traumatic flashbacks.

Last time it happened to me I found the rod sitting on the header tubes. Blew a fist sized hole in the front of the block. Almost lost control of the car from all the oil spewing from the motor and had thick smoke billowing into the cabin through the vents. My cyl head was hardly scratched though and it didnt happen from misshift or over rev. Pretty sure my rod bolt(s) let go around 7K RPM after shifting into 3rd.

If the crank is still good then you are in much better shape. That head though, can that even be fixed? Sleeves could save the block unless there is damage on the bottom of the cyls. Of course then you need the accompanying pieces to make a large bore work.

Good luck with the rebuild or swap.

The amount of damage shows ya just how fast things are moving up and down at 10K+ RPM! That piston/head damage is wild. Sorry to see this happen to your original motor. Sleeve it and slap on a new head!

I picked up a nice B18C with some Skunk 2 Pro 2 cams and AEM adj cam gears. It has some aftermarket springs and retainers too. No idea what it will put down. A detune or switch to stock cams may be in order. New seals, gaskets, water pump, timing belt, belts and hoses are on the way thanks to Chase. A friend of mine that is a full time mechanic, Honda specialist and racer is doing the work.

Here's some pics of the carnage. I'll be bringing this hunk o junk home with me. Maybe I'll get it resleeved or just make a coffee table out of it.
